Karen is the Principal of Accessible Design at the world’s largest digital accessibility company, Level Access. She works with some of the largest enterprise brands to ensure their accessible design practices are as inclusive as possible and is their resident subject matter expert when it comes to applying accessibility to design systems. She talks a lot about the nuance of accessibility in design systems, from the elaborate ways tokens can play a role in accessibility, to the ops and governance of the system’s accessibility.
WORKSHOP
In this session we’ll discuss the accessible design and documentation considerations for each of the levels in a design system. For styles, we’ll discuss things like tokens. For components, we’ll discuss things like states and interactions. For patterns we’ll discuss things like keyboard navigation and interactivity between elements. And for templates and pages we’ll discuss things like responsiveness and orientation.
